Your most embarrassing date moment?
A senior colleague once tried to set me up with a woman who worked for him. When I met up with her, she was under the impression that she was meeting with him, not going on a date with me, and had brought her mom and sister to meet him. We clearly had different ideas of where things were headed, but at least I got to meet her family.
What career accomplishment are you most proud of?
An ICU nurse once alerted me to a suspicious area of redness on a patient's thigh that she thought could be necrotizing fasciitis, which is a dangerous, rapidly progressing infection. I told the senior resident that I agreed, but he told me not to worry because the patient was low-risk for the condition. Somewhat disobediently, I ordered x-rays of the leg anyway, which revealed gas within the leg muscle, a highly suspicious finding for serious infection. The patient was quickly taken to the operating room for treatment. The nurse deserves the credit for a great catch, but at least I didn't screw it up!
