Your most embarrassing date moment?
My mother and sister came to campus to help move me out after freshman year of college. They were also meeting my then girlfriend for the first time, for dinner that night. My girlfriend was nervous, so we arrived a bit early and the maître D’ showed us to our table.... where we waited, and waited, and waited. An hour later, my mother and sister arrive, and I noticed something was weird — both of them were overly talkative and giggly. When my sister was trying to read the menu upside down, I realized they were both drunk. They had spent the last 2.5 hours with my friend's parents at the bar right next door. The dinner conversation went on to include a variety of mortifying stories from my high school “glory days." I was so embarrassed, but my girlfriend loved it. Thankfully she dated me for the next 3 years, so I guess I was the only one who thought it was a deal-breaker.
What career accomplishment are you most proud of?
I directly assisted two State Exchanges in becoming operational and compliant in providing access for individuals and families to enroll in healthcare insurance. During one of the projects I spent a couple weeks at a call center in a rural part of the state. As I left the office to catch a flight one afternoon, I tossed a football back to some boys after an errant pass. The young boy ran over to me and thanked me for making it possible for him to play football. Football was an important and pivotal part of my life from peewee to the collegiate level, so I was naturally curious to why he associated me with allowing him to play football. His response: "You have a suit on, so you must be one of those guys giving people money to see the doctor." His mother told him if she gets healthcare insurance, he could join the football team in the fall.
