Worst pre-Hinge date?
I had a date where her phone was running out of battery, and she insisted on charging it at the only power outlet… on the other side of the bar. Every few minutes she went back across the bar to check her phone for urgent work emails. It got pretty awkward once other people at the bar started noticing.
It seems you grew up with some pretty impressive (and unique) sports skills… could you fill us in?
I played table tennis competitively from when I was 11 until college. I got started when my dad brought me to the local table tennis club where he’d sometimes play. I got really excited and wanted to play the game myself, and the rest is history. At my peak I trained 4-5 times a week, either at the club or at home with a robot. I played in local, regional, and national tournaments, including a couple AAU junior olympic tournaments where I won a gold and two silver medals.
In retrospect, I was really fortunate that the club near me had some of the most premier talent in the country, and I had the opportunity to be coached by a national champion and Olympian. Because table tennis is not a mainstream sport, it’s so much harder to find coaches to train with and practice partners who can play at a high level. Eventually I stopped because of college, where I just didn’t have the time to devote 20 hours a week to continue playing at a high levels and still pursue my other goals, but I have great memories.
